Community Awards
Christchurch Heritage Awards 2010
Christchurch's first citywide heritage awards are exclusively devoted to recognising and celebrating all aspects of the city's heritage. The awards were launched in June this year by the Christchurch Heritage Awards Trust with the aim of promoting and celebrating heritage retention, conservation and education.
The first awards ceremony will take place on 27 October during this year's Beca Heritage Week, in the Great Hall at the Arts Centre. Categories include: built heritage – public sector, built heritage – private, heritage tourism, education and interpretation, advocacy, landscape, and innovation. The awards recognise excellence in these areas and will promote the values of best practice heritage retention and conservation to the wider community.
The judging panel is chaired by Anna Crighton, a heritage advocate and former Christchurch City Councillor of 12 years, and includes international heritage expert Jim Gardner from Heritage Victoria and nationally recognised heritage expert Dame Anne Salmond, with former Prime Minister Helen Clark as Trust patron.
