Country Women's Institutes in Ellesmere Display
Come and see our specially created display on Country Women's Institutes in Ellesmere, hosted by the Leeston Library. This display tells the story of settlement, the coming together of community and sense of togetherness forged by these early societies. The society's archives can also be seen by appointment.

The Regimental History Centre at Burnham Military Camp
Explore some of our shared history in a visit to the Regimental History Centre - 2nd Canterbury Nelson Marlborough West Coast Battalion Group at Burnham Camp. Re-creations, artifacts and stories found at the Regimental History Centre relate to the long history of military service in Canterbury, from the early settlers onwards. All welcome.

Paper, People and Places: Part 3 – A Colonial Family's Rural Residence
Visit the home of Sir John Hall and Rose, Lady Hall at Hororata, where descendants still live. Items from the extensive archives at Terrace Station relating to the family and the farming operation will be on display. Enjoy the magnificent trees and garden and hear about the future plans for this important heritage property. Reading at 3pm. Part 1 and Part 2 of the series will be held on Tuesday 26 October and Thursday 28 October respectively.

Lincoln Landmarks – Liffey Cottage and Pioneer Hall
The Lincoln and Districts Historical Society is the custodian of two historical buildings, Liffey Cottage and Pioneer Hall. These Lincoln landmarks will be open for viewing during Beca Heritage Week. Liffey Cottage, built in 1875, is furnished as an early 20th century workers cottage, and Pioneer Hall, originally the first Lincoln Library, is now a gallery housing old photographs of Lincoln and surrounding areas.

Glentunnel Museum
Visit the Glentunnel Museum during Beca Heritage Week and relive our yesterdays amongst a collection of material dating back to our pioneering past. Items on display include early mining instruments, tools used in the area and items from the brickworks.

Prebbleton Heritage – Access and Discovery
Explore Prebbleton's history at the Archive Room situated at the rear of the Prebbleton Public Hall. Records include a large collection of historic photographs dating from 1860s, some marriage, baptismal, school and cemetery records, as well as other archival material.
Outside of Heritage Week the Archives Room at Prebbleton is open 2-4pm on the last Sunday of each month except December.

Cotons Cottage and Museum – Hororata
Cotons cottage is a rammed clay cottage that was first built in 1864 by Bentley Coton and then rebuilt in 1977. Experience a taste of the early settlers' lives in this colonial cottage; their style of living, the hardships and the rewards. The cottage and Museum are located on an historic reserve. Outside Heritage Week, opening hours are 1:30-4 pm every fine Sunday from September to May.

Explore Local Heritage Resources at Selwyn Library
Selwyn Library is celebrating Beca Heritage Week with several events: displays in each library, cemetery tours, and tutorials on the computer introducing Ancestry.com and our unique Kete Selwyn website. The Selwyn Library Heritage collection contains oral histories, photographs and early publications relating to the settlement of Christchurch and Canterbury.

Cob Making Workshop
Join the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and renowned cob expert Blue Forsyth to learn the art of earth construction. This one day course is specifically designed for those who own or are caretakers of cob or rammed earth buildings. The day will include building methods and terminology, degrees of Intervention, identifying and sourcing materials (clay fibre lime etc), and carrying out repairs.
It will also incorporate an open forum to discuss other techniques and problems. Blue Forsyth has been playing in the mud for about 25 years. During this time he has been actively involved in building new adobe buildings and restoring many heritage earth buildings.
Blue has facilitated numerous workshops on earth and straw bale construction and is currently writing a course on Natural Building for Aoraki Polytech. In 2008 he was awarded the Elisabeth Drupsteen Award for services to earth building and is on the committee of the Earth Building Association of NZ. Materials will be provided for the practical session, but do bring earth construction materials if you wish to demonstrate your specific style of construction.
Morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Please bring your own lunch and suitable clothing. The course will be limited to 15 participants only.
