Mona Vale High Tea Tuesday
Delight in the sophistication of an English style High Tea at the historic Mona Vale Homestead. High Tea is served with charming vintage crockery for a selection of Dilmah teas or espresso coffee and is delivered with two tiers of tasty treats - sweet and savoury.
Originally part of the estate belonging to the Deans, one of the first settler families of Christchurch, the homestead had a series of owners who were each responsible for the architecture of the buildings and landscaping of the expansive historic gardens.
Thanks to the Civic Trust in 1967 and the efforts of the Christchurch City Council, Mona Vale was purchased and survives today intact to become one of the city's most treasured assets. Explore the expansive gardens surrounding the homestead, discover the Fernery (built in 1906), the magnolias, rhododendrons, herbaceous perennials and rose garden. Take time to reflect in the gazebo which is modelled on an illustration of the 19th century children's book Floria's Feast by Walter Crane. For those already familiar with Mona Vale, revisit and discover the historic Bath House, now renovated as a conservatory with warm climate plantings.

Learn how to plan an oral history project, choose the best equipment, achieve clear audio recordings, select informants, follow ethical procedures, develop questioning techniques, process oral history and make the material available for use.
Bring a recorder if you have one. Entry fee includes morning and afternoon tea. Please bring your own lunch or lunch to share. The course will be led by Michelle Bradley, a freelance oral historian and teacher. Michelle has been the project manager for a number of oral history projects and has completed several life story interviews for families.
